FlightGear Scenery Database Latest News

The scenery object database is now hosted on a speedy new server thanks to the nice people at Telascience.

There has been a reorganisation of the shared models to avoid dumping them all in the same directory - if you're using the new v1.0.0 scenery then you'll need to grab the latest shared models package here. If you're using a base package from CVS then you'll be able to make the required changes by doing your normal update.

If you're running an OpenSceneGraph based FlightGear build you'll also have some extras - enjoy the surprise.

Over 5000 new wind turbine positions have been added for Denmark thanks to Morten Oesterlund Joergensen. You may need to be a little more careful if you're flying low level there now.

I've been re-organising things on the website - there's a new menu structure at the top of the page (please let me know if this causes problems for you). There's a new way of browsing the models in the database (as requested by several people) and finally a new RSS feed so you can easily see what models have been added recently.

After adding lots of models to Paris last nights export failed after eating all the RAM on the server, resulting in missing data in the download files. A bit of optimisation later and everything's working again.

Users of the cvs version of flightgear will be aware of the interactive scenery editor based on the ufo. It allows you to place models into the scenery and adjust them until you're happy with the position.

I'm happy to announce that the XML file that the editor produces can now be imported straight into the database. So start placing objects, and send me the files so everyone can benefit!

Added a new localizer model to replace the glideslope transmitters that'd been used in their place. Corrected orientation of these models too.
